Interview: Gadren on The Face

Hey, fans of Path of the Panels! Sorry no comic this week, but I've had a bad cold. Today, though, I'm happy to provide you with a great interview with Gadren, where you'll learn all about the Face! Enjoy!

PlantPerson: How did you come up with the Face?
Gadren (Face-Eater!): good question
back in around 7th grade, I had been drawing other "face" designs that were different from the current one
it gradually evolved over time
originally, it had hair and an ear, and one eye, not 2
but I simplified it
PlantPerson: yikes!
Gadren (Face-Eater!): and last year, it was refined into its modern form
PlantPerson: Why is it always thinking, "?"
Gadren (Face-Eater!): well, it isn't always...
-usually, I don't draw a "?"
-but sometimes it has one
-or an !
-or a scribble when it's angry
-or, when it's just plain weird, a ";"
PlantPerson: ohh-kayyy. Why do you use the "?" one for your avatar?
Gadren (Face-Eater!): well, because I'm confused about the world
- I guess.
- or I confuse others
PlantPerson: little of both, maybe?
Gadren (Face-Eater!): sure!
PlantPerson: When did you first start using the Face online?
Gadren (Face-Eater!): oh, let's see...It was maybe last March or so
PlantPerson: That recently?
Gadren (Face-Eater!): my UO avatar was originally this:

Gadren (Face-Eater!): then, as part of some inside joke, i became pirate Gadren for a few days:

Gadren (Face-Eater!): even though I wasn't the face yet, I was still eating faces
- so I ate my own:

PlantPerson: Eating faces came first?
Gadren (Face-Eater!): yeah
- that came from me reading a post on UO from someone else, saying "AHHH! Bahro! Don't eat my face!"
-I thought it was so funny that I took the idea
- you could probably search on UO for it
-you know, the Face at one time had arms and legs

-and clothes
PlantPerson: It is a funny idea. No one ever thinks of having one's face eaten, it's always just arms and legs.
Gadren (Face-Eater!): yeah
- and not even a head
-but a face
PlantPerson: What do you think of the fact that you have become a celebrity because of your avatar?
Gadren (Face-Eater!): well, it's odd...I certainly feel important, even though the Face craze had died down
PlantPerson: It has died down, hasn't it? Well, in any case, even if it has come and gone, you're widely recognized now. And a lot of other people are also using the Face in their avatars.
Gadren (Face-Eater!): true
PlantPerson: Does that bother you at all?
Gadren (Face-Eater!): no, in fact I love it!
PlantPerson: I figured as much
Gadren (Face-Eater!): I think that the Face is a wonderful symbol, and others are free to use it, as long as they say that they haven't created it
-just like the 300+ smilies of Gadren
PlantPerson: Smiley Me has too much time on his hands.
Gadren (Face-Eater!): lol
- not much anymore
PlantPerson: Recently, very observant people may have noticed that the original Face in your avatar changed to a new, slightly different version. Why did this happen?
Gadren (Face-Eater!): someone had just made a nicer, less pixelated version
PlantPerson: you didn't make it? You're using OTHER PEOPLE'S FACES????
Gadren (Face-Eater!): well, not that version
